Introduction:

Parents often do not have the time to locate vital community resources without the help of a case manager or prior experience sifting through the data to find opportunities. The Greater Baltimore Urban League has gathered information on available resources in Baltimore City for parents, many of which are at no cost.

Baltimore City Community College (Community ESL) 

Ages served: 18+

Community ESL classes help students with limited language proficiency or low literacy skills develop their English proficiency, life skills, and career readiness. Classes provide instruction and practice in conversation, grammar, listening, reading, and writing in the context of both life and work skills. Community site classes are a result of partnerships with agencies throughout Baltimore City. The program serves immigrants and refugees. The Community ESL program provides the highest quality of instruction, consistently performing above the state average for successful academic completion of ESL programs in the state of Maryland.

Behavioral Health System Baltimore

Behavioral Health System Baltimore, Inc. is a nonprofit organization established by Baltimore City to perform the function of managing Baltimore City’s behavioral health system—the system of care that addresses emotional health and well-being and provides services for individuals with substance use and mental health disorders. Caroline Center

We educate and prepare women to become knowledgeable, skilled, and compassionate healthcare career professionals and to practice as certified nursing assistants and pharmacy technicians. Center for Urban Families

Since our founding in 1999, CFUF has remained at the front-line of addressing some of our city’s most pressing issues, including poverty, unemployment, father-absence and family disintegration. Community College of Baltimore County (CCBC) ​English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

Esperanza Center

​The Esperanza Center is a comprehensive resource center whose mission is to welcome immigrants by offering hope, compassionate services, and the power to improve their lives. Since 1963, immigrants from all over the world have trusted the Esperanza Center to help them navigate life in a new country. Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide services related to education, healthcare, immigration legal matters, family reunification, anti-trafficking, and general community support to thousands of immigrants each year.

Identity Clinic

The Identity Clinic seeks to assist reentering individuals in navigating the costly and cumbersome process of reclaiming their identity. A reentering citizen will be able to visit the clinic and obtain help with completing and processing the documents needed for a Maryland State Identification, Birth Certificate, and Social Security Card.

Learning is For Tomorrow

Ages Served: All

LIFT was created to respond to the needs of southeast Baltimore residents who want to improve their basic educational skills. Many adults struggle with daily skills, such as understanding job applications, helping their children with homework, reading a rental agreement, or obtaining a driver’s license. For others, improved skills are needed to keep a job or advance in the workplace. LIFT’s objective is to help adults overcome these barriers.

Raymond V. Haysbert Center for Entrepreneurship

The Greater Baltimore Urban League was founded “To enable African Americans to secure economic self-reliance, parity, power, and civil rights.” In keeping with it’s mission, GBUL, in partnership with the National Urban League, launched the Raymond V. Haysbert, Sr. Center for Entrepreneurship. Responsible Fatherhood Project
